Hiram stared at her, on the verge of breaking down. "I know everything now. Mom and Dad are gone, and you're not really my sister. My sister would never abandon me..." Charlotte froze for a few seconds, watching him take a shaky step back, his hands trembling. "Hiram! I never abandoned you! It doesn't matter who I am- in my heart, you'll always be my brother. We've grown up together for twenty years. Are you really going to throw all of that away over this?" His eyes were unfocused. "But Tricia said..." Charlotte stepped toward him, voice firm. “I don't know exactly what Tricia told you, but do you honestly believe her? You were in a coma for months, and Mom and Dad's accident was connected to her- I remember every detail. There's no way I'll just let her get away with it!" He stood there, stunned, lost for words.
She slowly moved closer. "You're the only brother I have left. The Sterling family only has you now. Are you going to leavetoo?" Hiram remained silent, unresponsive. Just then, a firefighter-harnessed to a safety rope-climbed up from the other side and, before Hiram could react, yanked him back to safety.
Both of them tumbled to the ground, the firefighter's grip locked tight on Hiram's arm.
At last, Hiram stopped struggling.
Once he'd been rescued, Vera and the medical team escorted him back to his room. Charlotte, as next of kin, stayed behind to handle things with the police and fire department, offering her thanks.
Soon after, the police and firefighters left.

1/1 12:47 Chapter 388 "Professor Carstairs?" she called, walking over. "You haven't left yet?" "I was waiting for you." Charlotte paused, then seemed to remember something. She pulled a small box from her bag. "Oh, right-this is for you." "A lighter?" Judd raised an eyebrow.
Her hand stalled midair, puzzled. “How did you know?" He answered without hesitation. "Gentry told me." Charlotte was speechless. Was he messing with her? Judd took the box from her, opened it, and smiled, lips curving. "Nice taste." Charlotte was about to say something when, out of nowhere, Evander appeared at the elevator. He stood there, gaze flickering to the box in Judd's hand.
Judd glanced back over his shoulder.
Charlotte quickly looked away, suddenly unable to meet Evander's dark, unreadable eyes. She'd lied to him, yes- but he'd lied to her too.
So why did she feel embarrassed? Pressing her lips together, she said, "Professor Carstairs, I need to check on my brother." He smiled. "Go ahead." Charlotte walked toward the elevator.
Evander didn't move, waiting until she reached him. Once she stepped inside, he followed. As the doors slid shut, neither spoke a word.
The silence was absolute.
Charlotte's mind was a blur. Lost in thought, she barely noticed when the man beside her loosened his collar, then suddenly pulled her close, trapping her against the wall and kissing her.

By the tshe cto her senses, he was already kissing her hard, desperate, as if trying to pour out everything he couldn't say.
Her lips stung, going numb, and though she tried to push him away, he wouldn't budge.
Only when she finally stopped fighting did he let her go, his eyes dark and wounded. "Why did you lie to me?" Charlotte pressed her lips together, refusing to answer.
At that moment, the elevator doors slid open.
She shoved him off in a panic, just as two nurses glanced their way. One recognized her. "...Dr. Sterling?" Charlotte managed a stiff nod and hurried out.
She went straight to Hiram's room, where Vera was keeping watch to prevent any more attempts at self-harm. As Charlotte pushed open the door, Vera stood up slowly. "Charlotte." Charlotte nodded. "Thank you."
"It's nothing." Vera stepped aside. "You two talk. I'll give you somem space." OnceWera left, Charlotte sat down beside the bed. Hiram sat slumped against the headboard, looking utterly lost. After a long pause, he rasped, "Mom and Dad... they're really gone?" To him, it felt like he'd only just fallen asleep-then woke up to find his parents gone, and his hwith them.
For anyone, it would be a nightmare.
Charlotte lowered her gaze, unable to reply.
He turned away, wiping his tears, Charlotte reached out covering this hand nd with hers. You still have me. From now on, I'll always be your 3/4 Chapter 388 sister." Before Hiram could respond, a figure appeared at the door.
