Chapter 556 Maurice glanced at Jarrod, noticing that he hardly seemed to care about Sylvie's performance today he hadn't even offered her a single word of comfort.
Maurice found this rather interesting. A flicker of amusement crossed his eyes before he finally spoke. "Well, attitude matters more than anything. It's good you're able to see it that way." Sylvie felt a heaviness in her chest, but she said nothing more.
Her gaze drifted toward Elodie.
As fate would have it, Elodie and her group had to pass by them on their way out.

That was enough to make Sylvie freeze, her composure unraveling in an instant as a silent alarm blared in her mind.
Elodie hadn't expected Jarrod to address her. She slowed for a brief moment, glancing at him. He was watching her, his face unreadable, but there was a faint, ambiguous smile in his eyes.
Even Alexander looked surprised, shooting a quick look at Sylvie, whose expression had soured visibly.
Elodie didn't stop, nor did she intend to reply.
Esmeralda, however, grinned and chimed in, "Mr. Silverstein, instead of fussing over your ex-wife, maybe you should cheer up Ms. Fielding. Look at her-lost and disappointed." At that, Sylvie's face grew even darker.
After they left, Sylvie turned to Jarrod, only to find his eyes still following Elodie's retreating figure.
She clenched her fists suddenly. "Jarrod, could you takehfirst?" He finally looked at her. "I'm not done here yet. I need to meet with a few of the judges. You should head back on your own." Sylvie quickly masked her surprise, keeping her composure. "Alright, you take care of your business." She didn't hesitate, walking away briskly, determined not to let anyone see even a hint of her disappointment.
Grady watched her go, feeling a stab of disapproval toward Jarrod.
Couldn't be at least offer a few words of comfort? He lavished.

Maurice glanced at Jarrod. "Sylvie took quite a hit today. Anything you do or say will be magnified in her eyes now." Jarrod raised an eyebrow. "Is that so?" Maurice hesitated. To be honest, even after more than a decade of friendship, he still couldn't claim to truly know what was going on in Jarrod's mind.
Once Jarrod finished his business, he drove over to Waldron Ferguson's house. Waldron wasn't surprised to see him. With his hands clasped behind his back, he remarked, "You still have tto paya visit at this hour?" Jarrod gave a careless smile. "The past couple of days have been pretty relaxed. Aren't you planning to attend the event tomorrow?" "This a personal invitation?" Waldron snorted, motioning for someone to bring Jarrod stea. "Something like that," Jarrod nodded.
Waldron eyed him. "Jarrod, I haven't settled the Verdant University incident with you yet." "There's still time," Jarrod replied, lips curling into a polite, easy smile.
Waldron couldn't help but look him up and down. "Your grandfatherm always said you were a schemer, and now see what he meant. You're the first one bold enough to useas a pawn." Jarrod let out a soft laugh. "You givetoo much credit." Waldron gave a dismissive grunt. "Given all you've done to support national research, and your generous sponsorship this time, I'll let it slide."
"Technology is the backbone of our country, if we could produce more top talents like UN2, it would be a it blessing, Jarrod replied, taking a measured sip of tea. Waldron looked at him. "You're interested in that as well?"
"You could say that. Hasn't U.N2 already beca required casem study in the courses you and the other scholars teach?"
